York City youths tumbled out of the Youth Alliance Cup in a penalty shoot-out after sharing the spoils 1-1 with Fleetwood.

Good link-up play between the front three made a few half-chances early on, with Rob Moncur and Reece Kelly working well off Chris Dickinson.

York defended well throughout the half, with the back four keeping a high line and the midfield winning every second ball.

Fine footwork from Chris Banks took him past two defenders before squaring the ball to Danny Middleton, who inched into space to finish neatly.

Kelly was then denied doubling the lead with a solid save from the Fleetwood ’keeper.

Fleetwood upped the pace in the second half and a scuffed shot found its way into the net beyond a thicket of legs for an unlikely leveller.

Substitute Cameron Murray smashed a shot against the bar and then crossed for Ollie Smith, whose header went narrowly over.

A last minute free-kick was headed on by Ben Middleton but the effort met the same fate, to take the tie to penalties.

And it was here that the Fleetwood ’keeper earned his corn with several saves to oust City.
