YORK’S Alan Thompson won the York & District Amalgamation of Anglers’ Tower Trophy on the River Ouse.

Thompson, a member of Burton Stone Lane WMC Angling Club, landed only a 6lb 4oz carp to head the 31-strong field on the Donkey Woods, Fulford and Palace Ings stretches of the river.

While Thompson also narrowly missed out on catching another large carp, bream made up the bulk of the second and third-placed nets.

Selby’s Paul Issatt was second with 3lb 12oz, while Wayne Shillito, also of Selby, placed 3lb 7oz on the scales.

There are no match bookings on York waters tomorrow, but the latest round of the Acomb Tackle York & District Winter League will be held on the Ouse at Donkey Woods, Fulford and Palace Ings on Sunday.

The next big amalgamation match is the Christmas Cheer contest, scheduled for Sunday, November 26.

The competition is held on the River Ouse at Poppleton above, Poppleton Moatfield and Poppleton Sellars’, Donkey Woods, Fulford and Palace Ings.

The draw will be held at St Clement’s WMC in South Bank at 8.30am.
