YORK City manager Gary Mills has finally got his man after signing Aldershot striker Alex Rodman on a loan deal until January.

The Minstermen boss has been a long time admirer of the 25-year-old forward – admitting he offered a cash deal for the former Grantham, Gainsborough Trinity and Tamworth front-man when he first took the reins at Bootham Crescent.

Rodman moved to the Shots, where he has scored seven times in 40 appearances but, having fallen out of favour at The Recreation Ground, he boosts a city strike force that now numbers six – with the one-time England C player fighting it out with Jason Walker, Matty Blair, Ashley Chambers, Oli Johnson and Jamie Reed for one of the trio of spots in Mills’ preferred 4-3-3 formation.

The City boss said: “He has joined us until January, until the window opens, and he is another attacking option.

“He fits into my style, my system, and he is an exciting player, takes players on, can play wide, or down the middle, can deliver a good ball and scores goals.”

“He’s just got lost a little bit at Aldershot. I tried to get him when I first came to York.

“I actually offered money for him but he went to Aldershot.”

When asked whether Rodman’s signing would give current star striker Jason Walker extra competition, Mills added: “It’s another attacking player.

“Whether it is Jason Walker, Ashley Chambers, Matty Blair, Oli Johnson or Jamie Reed, it’s another striker and another option for me.

“If I have six strikers here, and I play three, I have the opportunity to change all three.

“Alex became available. Jonathan Smith went out on loan and that has given me the opportunity to maybe strengthen somewhere.

“I’ve decided to bring Alex in.”
