Bowls: Yorkshire beat Lancashire

YORKSHIRE got off to a great start in their Over-60s Liberty Trophy group as they beat Lancashire 141-104, picking up 22 out of 24 points thanks to five out of six winning rinks.

The home leg, played at York Indoor Bowls Club’s Thanet Road base, saw Paul Dawson’s team extend their lead from 9-7 after ten ends to 19-8 five ends later before posting a 26-14 victory.

Graham Brooke’s rink led 21-9 with six ends to go and finished 24-18 winners, while Eddie Killgallon’s team nearly pulled off a comeback as they were edged out 21-20 after being 20-16 down with three ends to play.

In Blackpool, Tony Horobin’s side were level at 16-16 with six ends to play and won 25-16.

Alan Jones’ team only dropped one shot on the last six ends and won comfortably 22-12, while John Whiteley’s side made a great recovery from 23-13 down with three ends to go to win 24-23.

Yorkshire’s next game is against their biggest threat Cumbria, 22-2 conquerors over Durham. The game will be played at Thanet Road on Thursday, November 29
