Simpson brothers power to silverware at Croft Circuit

SPEEDY York siblings Ash and Russ Simpson were in top form at the opening meeting of the season at North Yorkshire’s Croft Circuit.

Ash was utterly unstoppable in the Super National class in his Lotus Exige, while younger brother Russ added to the family silverware by winning the Super 1600 Championship in his Citroen.

The pair were racing on a Croft bill headlined by the final round of the MSA British Rallycross Championship and including its associated British Rallycross Grand Prix events.

Sussex-based Julian Godfrey clinched a second successive Monster Energy/Maktrak MSA British Rallycross Championship in his Ford Fiesta before winning the following day’s coveted Procters Luxury Coaches/Star Radio-backed GP.

Northallerton’s Kevin Procter was second to Godfrey in the Rallycross finale, but damage to his Ford Focus’ engine meant he was unable to start the GP.

The next event at Croft is the Roger Albert Clark Rally on Saturday, November 24, which sees rally cars from the 1960s and 1970s stop off at Croft for two competitive timed stages.

Northallerton Automobile Club hold their Christmas Stages Rally at Croft on Saturday, December 29.

Tickets for both events cost £10 and are on sale on the www.croftcircuit.co.uk website. Admission for accompanied children aged 15 and under is free on each day.
