Tennis aces lauded at end of season bash

Dunnington were lauded as team of the year at the 35th annual Fulford Ladies Invitation Tennis League presentation evening.
More than 150 players and officials attended the event at York Racecourse, which saw Dunnington receive the division one and division three titles.
David Lloyd’s first team were crowned division two champions, while Pocklington took the division four trophy.
Rufforth won division five and New Earswick captain Maz Broadbent led her team to the division six championship, while Appleton Roebuck seconds topped division seven.
Special awards were made to the leading player in each division, with York’s Wendy Stirke taking the top-flight accolade, while the other gongs went to York seconds’ Julia Lister (division two), Starbeck’s Beccie Jones (division three), Tollerton’s Sandra Jennings (division four), Rufforth’s Denise Reilly (division five), Copmanthorpe’s Linda Withers (division six) and Wilberfoss’ Gerry Screeton (division seven).
Meanwhile, league secretary Terry Haw is stepping down after 28 years in the role and a new appointment will be made in the next few weeks.
At the dinner, Haw was promoting his new book, a history of the league.
