Heworth’s in-form Gary Rogers, who also leads the highest break ratings
Heworth made it three wins in a row to extend their lead in the York Conservative Clubs’ Slater Cup Snooker Pairs League but only by virtue of the aggregate.
They were 3-2 in front in frames and had a 57-point aggregate advantage.
Mark Taylor and Chris Simpson levelled for Fulford in the last frame but still took the aggregate for a 4-3 victory.
G Rawling and M Bowker moved Acomb 2-1 ahead after the teams had shared the first two games. P Haithwaite and D Archer made it 3-1 with a 46-16 win only for Bootham’s Norman Shipley and Ken Clifford to claw one back but Acomb still had a 35 point lead.
G Keely and M Frank held off Pete Jackson and A Whinn in the last game to made it 4-2 in frames and ensure that Acomb secured the aggregate for a 5-2 success.
Bootham ‘B’ sneaked home 4-2 in a closely-fought match against their ‘A’ team although defeat was a distinct possibility in the York Conservative Club’s Faber Shield Billiards League fixture.
Nick Parker needed only two points while novice Matt Smith was 14 short but unable to stop Smith stealing a win.
Alf Appleby (22, 23 bks) and Ian Robinson then moved the ‘B’ team 3-0 ahead.
Jeff Brown stopped the run and Ken Taylor made it 3-2 but Tim Fillingham had done enough for the ‘B’ team to gain the aggregate by just 17 points for a 4-2 victory.
Acomb continued their unbeaten run with a 5-1 defeat of Bootham ‘A’.
Gary Robinson, Trevor Ventress and John Ashwell gave them a 3-0 lead.
Chris Dower (24 bk) pulled one back but Paul Holmes (31, 24 bks) sealed the win and the aggregate made it 5-1.
Defending champions Heworth were too good for Fulford who were a player short.
Jason Milner started them off with an 111-point win over Terry Ward (44 bk).
Colin Neal levelled but Steve Burdett (27, 25 bks), Gary Rogers (79, 47 bks) and a walk-over by Keith Watkinson made it 4-1 and they easily gained the aggregate for a 5-1 victory.
Holmes and Gary Robinson, who are unbeaten after four games, lead the way in the Cameo Engraving Player of the Year competition.
Heworth’s Burdett and Watkinson together with Acomb’s Ventress are joint third unbeaten with three wins.
Rogers consolidated his lead in the Cameo Engraving highest break contest with a 79 break.
