Hockey: York Ladies in 9-0 victory over Wigton

NO mercy was shown by City of York Hockey Club ladies I who walloped North League premier division strugglers Wigton 9-0.

With a couple of key players missing York took their time to get into the match.

But once they found their rhythm and started to pass the ball around, they ascended to total domination over the visitors.

The breakthrough eventually came from a penalty corner, followed by two goals in quick succession from another penalty corner and open play to lead 3-0 in the opening 15 minutes.

Suitably in charge, Emma Pledge and Jenna Gallagher controlled defence and spread the ball from flank to flank.

More direct running yielded another two goals for a comfortable half-time lead.

The hosts used the second half to try players in unfamiliar roles and, after a lull in play, turned their superiority to an even greater margin of triumph with four unanswered goals, boosted by the bonus of a clean sheet.

The goals plunder was shared between Sam Binns, Laura Horne, Kirsty Rossington, Loz Pearey, Beth Sanderson, Gallagher and Emily Thorpe.
