Hockey: Acomb Men I in away-day success

AWAY-DAY plunder was seized in dramatic style by Acomb Hockey Club men’s I.

After trailing 1-0 to hosts Sheffield Bankers VI, Acomb countered strongly to collect the three Yorkshire League division four points.

A well-rehearsed penalty corner from Sheffield broke the deadlock, but the tenacious Tangerines levelled with a penalty flick from Matt Dickenson.

Sheffield’s goalkeeper then proved a stubborn barrier producing a series of stunning saves.

But a late fluid move by Acomb was expertly finished by Pete Hilton to seal the win.

Hilton and Harry Ellis shared the man-of-the-match honours.

Meanwhile, Acomb Ladies hammered visiting Leeds Adel Carnegie 4-1 in Yorkshire League division three.
