Pickering Town and Tadcaster Albion back on victory trail

PICKERING Town and Tadcaster Albion bounced back from midweek defeats to record impressive wins in the Northern Counties East League premier division.

The Pikes erased the memory of their 1-0 reverse at Barton Town Old Boys on Wednesday by toppling high-flying Worksop Parramore on Saturday.

Striker Liam Salt scored in the final minute of each half to seal a precious three points for Jimmy Reid’s men, a result that moved them up to 12th in the table.

And Albion were 4-1 winners at Barton Town in the wake of their 1-0 home defeat by Lincoln Moorlands.

The Brewers climbed to sixth on the back of a win that was all-but sealed at half-time, with the visitors leading 3-0.

Ryan Qualter headed in the first on 31 minutes and Steve Jeff then fired in a second from 20 yards six minutes later before Chris Kamara’s 25-yarder found the net on 41 minutes.

Ryan Williams added a fourth on 89 minutes, before Joe Cooper got Barton’s consolation.

The premier division rivals are both in county cup action tomorrow.

Pickering host Thornaby in round one of the North Riding Senior Cup (7.45pm), while Albion are home to Eccleshill United in the second round of the West Riding County Cup (7.45pm).

There were identical draws in division one for Selby Town and Knaresborough Town.

Jamal Shahin gave the Robins a 21st-minute lead against Clipstone Welfare at Flaxley Road, but the visitors salvaged a point when Jimmy Adcock netted with seven minutes remaining.

Knaresborough, meanwhile, trailed 1-0 at home to Hemsworth Miners Welfare after Neil Towler’s 42nd minute goal.

Paul Eagling struck back for Town four minutes after the break.

Harrogate Town’s home clash with Corby Town in Blue Square Bet North was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.

The Wetherby Roaders are facing a battle to get the ground fit for tomorrow’s FA Cup fourth qualifying round replay against Hyde.

Harrogate Railway Athletic were denied a win by a last-minute leveller at Prescot Cables.

Cables led for the majority of the match thanks to a second-minute strike by Jonathon Bathurst, but Railway looked to have snatched the points with two goals in six minutes late in the game.

Damian Hopkins equalised on 75 minutes and former Tadcaster Albion player Rob Youhill struck again on 81 minutes, only for Jack Booth to snatch a point for the hosts.
