Acomb Celtic close gap to five points in division one title race

ACOMB Celtic beat Wigginton Grasshoppers 6-4 to close the gap on division one leaders King William to five points in the Ian’s Cars of Barlby York Sunday Morning Football League.

Their haul included a hat-trick from Ben Jones plus a Lee Powell brace and a strike by Neil Richardson.

Luke Roberts netted twice for Grasshoppers, whose other scorers were Terry Taylor and Matty Tiplady.

Enterprise brushed aside visitors Skelton 7-1, having led 6-0 at the break.

Carl Stewart opened the scoring for the home side and there were also two goals for Chaz Wrigley, two for James Shimmin and one apiece by Matty Brown and Scott Mills.

Skelton’s lone reply came from Jack Green.

Derwent United are the new leaders of division two after a 4-1 victory over Beeswing.

Callum Scott, Kingsley Daffern, Steve Twamley and Dave Bradshaw were the United marksmen, with Beeswing’s sole strike supplied by Darrel Dew.

Previous table-toppers York Medics lost their unbeaten record in emphatic style as they went down 9-3 at York Nomads.

The Nomads scorers were Nick Lawrie (2), Chris Bilton (2), Matt Hattee, Liam Wingfield, Jimmy Willmoth, John Cavanagh and Jamie Lawrence. Andy McCormick, Luke Thornton and Ben Cresswell scored for Medics.

Leeman United saw off Marcia Grey 3-1 thanks to goals by James Barrett (2) and Mark Moore.

Marcia got on the scoresheet with a rare Chris Ruddock goal.

Division three pacesetters Huntington Rovers made it six wins out of six when they saw off basement side Marcia Bishopthorpe 5-1.

Danny Rose bagged a hat-trick to add to Lewis Musgrave and John Patrick goals, eclipsing a Sam Cowley strike.

Despite a hat-trick from Shaun Gandy, Selby Olympia went down 5-3 to unbeaten York Five Lions.

That result moved Lions to within three points of the leaders with a game in hand.

The Lions scorers were Leigh Dutton (2), Will Moore (2) and Chris Ellerker.

Bubwith White Swan hammered Bishopthorpe United 11-0 with goals from Jamie Sedman (3), Martin Howson (3), Tom Robinson (2), Graham Stewart, Liam Bell and Wes Pears.

In division four, Rob Baker, Darren Jackson, Kevin Kozicki and Lee Carter helped Barlby beat F3 4-1.

Seven-goal Rob Gumley spearheaded St John’s 20-5 battering of Shoulder of Mutton. James Peavoy scored five and Dan Tingay got a hat-trick. Lee Winslow and Tom Parry netted two apiece and Angus Jones also scored.

Shoulder’s Ryan Pepper scored a hat--trick and Nicki Mizzi got two.

Kevin Martin hit seven in New Earswick’s 10-0 win at York Phoenix. Paul Young, Rob Dobson and Greg Lowther got the others.

Severus beat Hemingbrough 7-3 in round two of the Ian’s Cars of Barlby League Cup.

Nick Hutchinson scored four goals and Nick Mole, Mark Woodward and James Edmond also netted. Craig Haythorne (2) and Mike Young replied.
