HellCats stun RockIt-ball rivals by storming to UK Club Championship triumph

Easi-RockIts HellCats confirmed their status as Britain’s top RockIt-ball team with victory at the UK Club Championships, writes Jamie Presland.

Already winners of the regional and national leagues and the national knockout trophy this season, HellCats went into the showpiece as heavy favourites.

HellCats were forced to withdraw from last year’s championships in Scotland after injuries left them unable to field a team.

However, with only Cal Watt and James Ashbridge on the treatment table this time, they were determined to make amends.

Captain Sara Cooper led HellCats to victory as they completed a sensational quadruple, scoring more than 800 points in the process.

After dispatching Scunthorpe 256-194 in their first match, HellCats faced Ripon Vanquish, their main rivals for the title.

HellCats came out of the blocks flying and, despite a strong comeback from Vanquish, the champions showed their quality, edging the game 255-240.

The result meant HellCats went into their match with York, a late replacement for Falkirk Cannons, knowing a win would see them crowned champions and they stormed to an impressive 299-189 victory.

Coach Paul Hildreth said: “I am incredibly proud of my HellCats. They played superbly. Sara is a great captain and she was supported by every single player. They all drive the team.”
