Christine Shouksmith’s zeal yields silver at World Triathlon Championship

YORK Triathlon Club’s Christine Shouksmith gained a silver medal at the World Triathlon Championship in New Zealand.

Taking on the Sprint distance event of a 750 metres sea swim, 20 kilometre bike ride and five-kilometre run, the PE teacher from York High School overcame the elements to secure a silver medal in her age category in one hour 26 minutes and 56 seconds, just 97 seconds behind the New Zealand winner.

Shouksmith was one of seven triathletes from YTC who qualified earlier this year at various events making the long trip to take on the world’s best age group athletes in both the Olympic and Sprint distance events.

The 450-strong GB age group team placed third overall in the medal table behind New Zealand and Australia with a total of 21 medals.
