Bowls: New Earswick aces claim maximum points

New Earswick Indoor Bowls Club won their Yorkshire Over-55s League division two game 102-52 against Leeds to collect the maximum 18 points.

At home, Barry Harrison’s team roared 13-0 up after only five ends to underpin a 29-9 victory, while Ralph Tiplady’s side’s five on the fourth end paved the way for a comfortable 25-11 win.

In Leeds, Barry Johnson’s team had a 12-11 advantage with five ends to play and finished in style to notch 12 shots to only two against for a 24-13 success.

Bob Edwards’ rink led from start to finish en route to winning 24-19.

But there was only one winning rink for both York ‘A’ and York ‘B’ and that was from Graham Instone, whose team’s 31-11 success was the scant consolation in the ‘A’ team’s 89-63 first division fall to Redcar.

York ‘B’ lost all four rinks to perish 109-57 to Doncaster.
