Tennis: York aces worth a pinch of Salts

YORK Tennis Club men’s team defeated Salts in their last match of the season to gain promotion to the Yorkshire League first division from where they were relegated a year ago.

Said team captain Angus Smith: “We have had a very good season and have given a number of players their chance in the first team.

“Next season we will be concentrating on trying to bring some of the younger players through to gain experience in the top division.”

Meanwhile, the York TC women’s team ended their Yorkshire league division one campaign with a 7-2 defeat at Harrogate Racquets.

Louise Lister and Wendy Stirke won one rubber, as did Karen Retief and Kerrie Smith.

York finished fourth in the table.
