Acomb ‘A’ continued their unbeaten run in the York Conservative Clubs’ Carlsberg UK Snooker League but only due to a walkover which gave them a 4-3 victory over Bootham ‘B’.
Nick Marchant, Richard Lillie and Gary Robinson moved them ahead, all with black-ball wins, against a reply by Matt Smith.
Paul Mahoney reduced the arrears but Phil Carlton had a walkover next which decided the match. Lionel Barnes gained Bootham’s third point.
Heworth ‘B’ thrashed Malton ‘A’ 5-2. Defending champions Malton have yet to open their account and trail leaders Acomb ‘A’ by 15 points.
Huw Faircliffe and Andy Proud, who defeated Simon Weatherill (38 bk), gave Heworth an ideal start before Lee Taylor (38 bk) replied.
Darren Colledge, still unbeaten, and Keith Watkinson won the match before Dominic Spiteri gained Malton’s second point. Vic Gamble consolidated the victory.
Heworth ‘A’s Mark Winskill was in glorious form in the first frame and looked set for a clearance but just failed on the black after building a 64 break. Nick Dyson made it 2-0 but John Darley and Colin Robinson levelled.
James Kilmartin needed the last three colours to beat Rob Barron and Steve Burdett had a close win on the pink to decide the match for Heworth.
Barry Rankin’s black-ball success made it a 4-3 scoreline for Heworth but it could well have been 5-2 to Bootham.
In the clash of the ‘B’ teams, Fulford triumphed 4-3 over Acomb to move up two places to fifth.
Bob Smith, still unbeaten, won the first then John Ashwell levelled. Andy Hurley, Nigel Smith and Andy Ogley reeled in the next three frames to win the match but Chris Nicholson and Andy Stone stopped the run to hold the score at 4-3.
