Simon Dyson back on a roll for BMW Masters
11:40am Tuesday 23rd October 2012 in Sport
MISSION accomplished – that’s the happy verdict from York golfer Simon Dyson after his first of two tournaments in China.
Dyson, one of only a handful of leading current players to be invited to the Mission Hills pro-am celebrity tournament at the Hainan Island course at the resort of Haikou, finished second.
He carded five-under on the first day and then followed with a three-under second and final round to leave him just three shots adrift of tournament winner Matt Kuchar, the American Ryder Cup player who has had top ten finishes in all four majors of 2012.
But while Dyson’s eight birdies in the final round were blighted by five bogeys, and he dropped a place to 59 in the world rankings, the 34-year-old tasted a timely double bonus.
He raked in a runners-up cheque of more than $140,000 and, more vital, regained a putting touch which had deserted him over his previous two European Tour tournaments.
