Leeds United aiming to get back to play

AFTER the furore of the bitter derby at Sheffield Wednesday, Leeds United return to Elland Road tonight eager to return to winning form and less controversial circumstances.

The 1-1 draw at Hillsborough was marred by the assault on Wednesday goalkeeper Chris Kirkland by a Leeds fan who ran on to the pitch as the game was being played.

It yielded the claim by chairman Ken Bates that the attack caused “much damage” to the club’s image.

Now the Elland Road hosts will be hoping all the focus will be on their performance against visitors Charlton Athletic, kick-off 7.45pm.

Victory for manager Neil Warnock’s men, and a run of favourable other results, would restore them to the npower Championship play-off places.

Charlton, meanwhile, have struggled since their ascent to the second tier and will arrive at Elland Road smarting from a 1-0 defeat at home to Barnsley on Saturday.
