Keith Meredith, of York, who proposed on stage to his girlfriend, Lauren Stergides, in front of an audience ahead of a play at Rowntree Park
THIS was the moment a brave suitor proposed to his girlfriend on a theatre stage in York in front of hundreds of people.
Keith Meredith went down on one knee before The Mooted Theatre Company’s open air production of The Taming Of The Shrew in Rowntree Park.
His shocked girlfriend, Lauren Stergides, burst into tears and the audience erupted with cheers when she said “yes”.
Keith, 32, a general manager for ScS Sofas, and Lauren, 25, a doctor at York Hospital, will tie the knot later this year.
“Lauren has always said when someone proposes they should do something they would give them a story to tell,” said Keith. “Before the play started, the director got on stage and said there was someone in the audience that would like to say something. At first I looked around as if I was waiting for someone to get up, but then I said to Lauren: ‘He must mean me’.
“When I got up on stage with Lauren and went down on knee I got a bit of a wobble because I saw Lauren starting to cry.
“She said yes. I’m over the moon.”
