Success breeds success

TELE-PRODUCTS of Northminster Business Park, Poppleton, which manufactures telecom test equipment and market products in the health and safety sector, won the 1995 Exporter Of The Year title.

Its boss, Seggy Segeran, was so impressed with reports of RedBlack Software, the York winner of the Science and Technology Business Of The Year in 2006, that eventually he hired them.

Now RedBlack, a specialist in database applications and software development design, has just finished the first phase of a £40,000 contract to upgrade all TeleProduct's internal systems from order processing, to customer data and stock control. And it is about to integrate all its systems with its website.

Having read reports on RedBlack's win, Seggy approached Andy Gurnell, a Science City York business promoter who was on the judging panel.

As a former winner himself, he knew what it took to rise to the top, but as a good businessman he sought Mr Gurnell's confirmation.

Mr Gurnell said: "Assisting in the judging process enabled me to fully assess the quality of the products and services offered by RedBlack Software. I had no hesitation in recommending them to Tele-Products.

"The success of this collaboration once again highlights the value of such awards and proves that there is no reason to look outside the local area for any business need."

Mr Segeran said: "We've been so delighted with RedBlack's progress that we're now looking to work with them to extend the capabilities of the new system, including adding new modules to integrate with our telephone system to provide better tracking of customer calls and also handle recalibrations and rentals for the business."
