Year 11 students of Fulford School donned their finest for the prom, with some arriving at the event in Rolls Royces.

The evening saw teachers joining their pupils to mark the end of the school year with a buffet meal and a disco at the Hilton Hotel in York.

Head teacher Lorna Savage said: “The manager of the Hilton said it was the best behaved Prom he had ever seen and the pupils acted in an exemplary manner.”

Mrs Savage was also keen to praise the work of the student Prom Committee which organised the event after first having to present their plans to senior management before being given the go ahead.

After returning a budget surplus, the student committee decided to donate the remaining funds to cancer charities in memory of nine-year-old Oscar Hughes, from Dunnington, who has died after a relapse in his recovery from a brain tumour.
