An inscription from 1487 records the repair of the section of the wall between Fishergate Postern and Walmgate Bar by the then Lord Mayor, William todd. After rioting the following year, the archway was walled up and remained so for centuries

Hetherton Street was badly affected by the floods of 1947, which reached a record level of 17' 1". The street was built in 1891 and was at the current site of Marygate car park. The street was mostly demolished in 1973.

Haughton School at 31 St Saviourgate. It was founded in the 18th century by local citizen William Haughton, who died in 1773. The school closed in 1935.
