THREE men are still being sought in connection with a horrific sex attack on a woman in a York park.

Police were today holding a press conference to release more information about the assault and appeal for the public's help in finding the gang.

The victim, in her thirties, was found injured and semi-conscious by her son in West Bank Park, Holgate, on Thursday evening.

She had been walking her boxer dog near the park's memorial at 6.30pm when three attackers pushed her to the ground and assaulted her.

The woman was taken to York Hospital and is now recovering.

Det Supt Lewis Raw, of North Yorkshire Police, said after the assault: "This was a vicious and unprovoked attack on a member of the public, in a public place in daylight.

"It's imperative that we catch the three men as soon as possible to protect the public."

One of the men is described as white, aged 20 to 30, of medium build, wearing a light blue cap and a t-shirt.

The second was of Afro-Caribbean appearance, aged in his late 20's, of stocky build, with dreadlocks tied in a ponytail. He had a Birmingham accent.

The third man was of mixed race, 5ft 6ins tall, and wore a t-shirt.

West Bank Park was reopened over the weekend, but police were still in the area carrying out inquiries.
