TIME to take your vows and get in on the act - a gospel spectacular is coming to York.

The Songs Of Sister Act will open its UK tour in the city next month, with soul stars Rowetta Satchell, Sheila Ferguson and the London Community Gospel Choir, getting in the habit for hits like Oh Happy Day, Joyful Joyful, Shout and Ain't No Mountain High Enough.

Rowetta, a household name following her star turn in the X-Factor, has worked with the Happy Mondays and was a backing vocalist on Simply Red's Stars album. She was in York yesterday to promote the first leg on a nationwide tour of the show.

It was not the first time Rowetta, who released a self-titled album in 2005, has been to the city. She revealed she has family in York who she visited as a child. "I don't think I've ever performed in York before, but I remember we always used to go walking on the Bar Walls," she said.

Audiences at next Friday's show at the Grand Opera House are being encouraged to dress for the occasion and don their habits.
