STORMTROOPERS and a life-sized Dalek are set to create mayhem when Hollywood comes to York.

The favourite characters will be prowling our historic streets to promote an exhibition of memorabilia and props from film blockbusters like Bond, Indiana Jones, Star Wars and Lord Of The Rings.

As well as getting close to some genuine Hollywood props, anyone interested will also have the chance to own a piece of genuine film history as everything on display will be for sale.

Hosting the exhibition is MovieMania, a specialist company that sells movie memorabilia, set up by Andrew Simpson, of Heslington, York, when he was a student.

Twenty-two-year-old Andrew said he is hoping the exhibition, which he said is a first for York, will attract lots of interest.

He is hoping that hundreds of people will attend.

Andrew said: "We've worked with many British and American film studios to acquire a large collection of screen-used memorabilia, framed and all with great provenance.

"Items will include genuine props and production pieces from Bond, Indiana Jones, Star Wars, Lord Of The Rings and many more. Each prop will be available to own.

"Also on display will be a range of related movie memorabilia, including behind the scenes books, limited edition movie replicas, posters and even the most realistic light-sabres ever!

"Our team of specialists will be available to chat with enthusiasts wanting to start their own collection or movie buffs who already collect.

"It is going to be a unique event."

Andrew said ten per cent of the money raised will go to a charity called Medi-Cinema which installs cinemas in hospitals.

Andrew said: "The charity is completely in tune with our business, and with some of the memorabilia going for £2,000 this is a real chance to provide a decent amount of much- needed cash."

The exhibition is on from 11am to 5pm on Saturday, August 18, and Sunday, August 19 at the City Screen Cinema, York.

Entrance to the exhibition is free.
