SNOW made its second appearance in the space of a week in North and East Yorkshire yesterday - but it was only expected to be a brief one.

Ryedale and the Pocklington area saw some of the heaviest flurries as temperatures plummeted across the region, with flakes also falling in York.

Last weekend saw North Yorkshire experience its first heavy snowfall of the winter, and outbreaks of rain and snow were forecast to continue overnight, although they were predicted to disappear by today.

However, motorists were being warned to beware of icy conditions on the roads, which led to a series of crashes in the western part of the region yesterday.

• Police closed Garrowby Hill at 6.30pm last night following a number of accidents.
