YORK and the surrounding region has woken up to another bitterly cold day, after temperatures plummeted through the night.
Thin sheets of ice have even formed on the River Ouse, as York fell to its coldest in many years.
A spokeswoman for the Met Office said temperatures fell to -17C in Topcliffe and -11.9C at Linton on Ouse.
At 6am today, the recorded temperature in York was -8.5C.
There was anecdotal evidence of record lows in the region. Steve Nelson, motoring editor of The Press, said the reading on his car thermometer also fell to -17C near Tollerton.
