A Selby Post Office worker has made it to the regional finals of a national music competition.

Kim Brodie, 25, who grew up in Selby has only been performing as a solo artist for about four months, and said she was excited about reaching the regional finals of Open Mic UK’s Live and Unsigned competition after entering on a whim.

She said: “I didn’t really expect to get anywhere. It’s all a little bit daunting, but I’m more excited than nervous. I perform all over the UK and have been doing it for four years, but I’ve only been on my own for four months.” Kim, who went to Brayton High School, said her fiancé, James Newshome, and her parents would be at the gig on October 13.

She said: “My family are really proud of me, and my parents come with me to every gig I do.” If she wins the regional and area finals, a place in the national final at London’s O2 beckons.
