CHILDREN and parents have celebrated the opening of a new play area near Selby .

The Brigg Lane Play Area in Camblesforth has had a new all-weather surface installed thanks to funding from Groundwork North Yorkshire, Drax Power Ltd and the parish council.

Coun Ann Spetch officially opened the new facility, which was marked with a series of Spots versus Stripes games for younger members of the village.

Paul Varney, programme manager for Groundwork North Yorkshire, said: “We are really pleased to see so many people enjoying this fantastic new facility which has become a real asset to the village. We hope that the young people of Camblesforth will continue to enjoy it throughout the summer and beyond.”
