Funeral date for ex-Lions president

John Brown
THE funeral of John Brown, former president of Selby Lions Club, who died this week, will be held on Monday.
As previously reported in The Press, Mr Brown, who was a member of the club for ten years, served as president in 2004 and 2005, and took up the role again last year, until his death on Tuesday.
Doreen Holmes, Mr Brown’s long- term partner, said he would be sorely missed, and asked that donations in lieu of flowers should be made to Yorkshire Cancer Research.
Mr Brown, who was also show secretary of Selby and District Crysthanthemum and Horticulture Society, died at Selby War Memorial Hospital on Tuesday following a battle with prostate cancer, and is survived by his partner Doreen, his son Paul, and grandchildren.
