A youth has been remanded in custody charged with attacking a young woman and pulling something over her head in a Selby road late at night.
The 17-year-old defendant from the Selby area was arrested on Friday and charged with false imprisonment.
His detention comes after a police hunt that began on May 1 when the woman alleged she had been attacked as she walked along an alleyway between Abbot’s Mews and Abbot’s Road in Selby shortly after midnight that day.
Police issued a witness appeal. Yesterday, they arrested a suspect in Scarborough and after charging him, sent him in custody to York Magistrates Court earlier today where he was represented by Damien Morrison.
At the end of a hearing lasting more than half an hour, the youth, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was remanded in custody to appear before York Youth Court on Tuesday.
He was not asked to enter his plea. York Youth Court will be asked to decide if the case is so serious it should be sent to the crown court.
