New home for Abbey Leisure Centre creche

CHILDREN in Selby are “giddy” about their creche finding a new home.

Staff and children at the Abbey Leisure Centre creche had been moved around various rooms there, but were unable to find a permanent home when the centre was rebuilt last year.

Now, the children have a new home, in the centre of Selby Park, where parents can leave them for a couple of hours, or a full day. Sarah Whittles, 23, who runs the creche with Elaine Davies, said: “We used to be in two rooms upstairs at the leisure centre before the big change around and that was okay. The only problem was we didn’t have any natural light. The only windows looked down to the pool.”

The creche was later moved to the centre’s sports hall, before being relocated to a function room, which was occasionally shared with business meetings.

Sarah said: “We moved over here at the end of last year, and it’s much better. It’s the best place out of the lot. There’s a lot of natural light, and open space for the children, and the take-up is getting better.”

What they really mean is we have been pushed from pillar to post as the crèche does not fit with the “new” brand at Abbey leisure and have ended up in an old wooden hut a long way from the leisure center. So when I want to drop the kids off to do my workout I will have to visit two places - or find a more family friendly venue
