Church members and members of Selby Lions Club, together with their colleagues from Bridlington Lions Club, met at St Francis Church in Thorpe Willoughby, near Selby, to plant a memorial tree in the grounds.
The crab apple tree was planted in memory of the late Fred Sowden, a church member and a well-respected member of both Lions clubs and church congregations.
Tributes were paid to Mr Sowden by the Methodist minister, the Rev Michael Wilson, and presidents of both Lions clubs.
Prayers were said by Anglican Priest Rev Rodger Plaice.
John Brown, the president of Selby Lions Club, said: “Fred was highly respected by Lions member and also by church members.”
