JOBLESS people in Selby have been given a major boost with news that a jobs fair is to be staged in the town.
Nigel Adams, MP for Selby and Ainsty, said he was fulfilling an election pledge by organising the fair at the Abbey Leisure Centre on September 21.
He is encouraging businesses to sign up and attend the event, and revealed that Drax Power, Dovecote Park and York-based Renovo, who supply employment-related support services nationwide, had already committed to take part.
The Tory MP said that in the run-up to the election last year, he pledged helping people get into work would be his priority.
“The Jobs Fair will be a great opportunity to match jobseekers with opportunities as well as holding a series of workshops aimed at helping people into work so they are well equipped for the jobs market,” he said.
Jobcentre Plus staff will be offering advice on the day. Selby District Council leader Mark Crane said the authority was pleased to be working with the MP on the event.
He said the free event would enable jobseekers to brush up on CV, interview, and internet skills.
The fair will run from 10am to 4pm, with a networking event from 4.30pm to 6pm.
