HISTORY was made at the annual meeting of Ye Fraternitie of Olde Selebians when Peter Palmer and Tony Smith were elected president and vice president respectively for this year.

Peter, a Freeman of the city of York, became the first president to have a second term of office since the Fraternitie was formed in 1922, after previously having the honour in 1986.

He is also the first member to share the office with his father Rowland Palmer, who was president in 1971.

Tony is the first Selebian when he becomes president next year to follow his brother Ken, who gave up the presidency at the meeting.

Peter has been involved in various capacities in the town being a former magistrate sitting at the Selby and York courts, a chairman and president of Selby Round Table, chairman of the management committee of Selby Citizens Advice Bureau, also a governor of Selby High School and Barlby Bridge Primary School.

He also served as a member of the parole board of England and Wales and the prison service advisory committee.

He said: “I will continue to protect, preserve and promote the town of Selby for and on behalf of it's residents."
