A GROUP has been set up to preserve the historical heritage of a North Yorkshire village.
The Parish of Hemingbrough Historical/Heritage Society was set up by seven villagers and, at the moment, is involved in a First World War Centenary Project which will be completed on Armistice Day in 2018. The group is also involved in producing a book on the history of the British Oil and Cake Mill (BOCM) factory based at Barlby, in Selby.
Jan Strelczenie, treasurer, said: “The society has received funding of £9,000 from the Heritage Lottery Fund in order to produce this book and preserve the heritage of the BOCM for all.
“We have approached two local high schools, Barlby High and Selby High, and we have explained the project to them and they are eager that their pupils are involved.”
