ENTRY for the annual Great Selby Bike Ride is now open.

Organisers already have their first entrant signed up, with the Right Reverend Dr John Thomson, Bishop of Selby, taking the number one ticket.

The bishop will take part in the 45-mile ride, but a shorter distance of 25 miles can also be completed. Last year, more than 900 riders from all over Yorkshire and further afield took part in the event.

This year’s ride is the 29th and since its start it has raised £275,000 for local charities. This year’s recipients will be St Leonards Hospice, Martin House Children’s Hospice, the British Heart Foundation and The Friends of Selby War Memorial Hospital.

David Jones, of Selby Lions Club which organises the event each year, said: “It is great to have such an eminent rider as the Bishop in the event.”

Entry forms for the event, which takes place on May 10, at 10am, from Barlby High School, are available in Selby from Selby Bike Centre, Halfords, Wilco Motorsave, and other cycle shops in York, Wetherby and surrounding areas.
