A STEEL fabricator turned amateur photographer had his work put under the spotlight after being shortlisted for a national award.

Tim Burton from Tadcaster narrowly missed out on the award after being named runner-up in the annual EEF/Lombard ‘Make it Britain’ photography competition.

Mr Burton was praised by judges after coming second-place for the Best Amateur Photographer award with his image ‘The Kelpies’, which shows the impressive structure of the two 30 meter-high horses’ heads standing over the Forth & Clyde canal in Scotland.

The structure was fabricated in Yorkshire by SH Structures in Sherburn-in-Elmet, where Mr Burton works.

Mr Burton found out that he was runner-up at a ceremony in the House of Commons where was presented with a certificate and snapped up a share of £5,000 worth of Canon photography equipment.

Mr Burton said: "I’m over the moon to have been recognised in this award, but the most rewarding part was getting to see my work displayed in the House of Commons.

"As an amateur photographer, to have your work shown publicly in such a prestigious place is simply priceless."
