AN AMATEUR photographer from North Yorkshire has been shortlisted for a prestigious national award for these two stunning images.

Tim Burton, of Tadcaster, is competing in the amateur photographer category of the 5th annual EEF/Lombard ‘Make it Britain’ photography competition.

His pictures show the Kelpies, 30-metre high horse-head sculptures standing majestically over the Forth and Clyde canal in Scotland, and the Cutty Sark in Greenwich, London.

The photographs will now go on display during an awards ceremony in the House of Commons on Thursday December 11, at which the winner will be announced.

The competition aims to raise the profile of British manufacturing by showcasing the industry’s creativity, diversity and heritage through inspiring photography.

It is part of EEF’s ongoing ‘Make it Britain’ campaign, which champions the vitality and vibrancy of the UK’s manufacturing and industrial base.

Tim said he had been delighted to discover he had been shortlisted, and finding out that his work would be displayed in the House of Commons was the icing on the cake.

"Manufacturing offers endless opportunities for creative, dramatic and eye-catching images, but the tricky part is really capturing its essence and therefore the imagination of the judges," he said.

Neil Lloyd, head of sales development at Lombard Business and Commercial, said: “This competition is about capturing the spirit of modern-day manufacturing and Tim has to be congratulated for taking standout photographs that do exactly that.

"His images successfully capture the rich innovation, excitement and importance of industry in Britain today and I can’t wait to see them displayed in Parliament to maximum effect.”
