THE allocation of loans in excess of £110,000 which helped more than 20 people set up in business in Selby has been welcomed.

MP Nigel Adams has welcomed new figures which show the Government’s Start-Up Loans scheme has so far supported 21 people in his Selby and Ainsty constituency with the ideas and determination to start a new business with £112,900 of loans to help them get going.

He said the scheme has helped create jobs in North Yorkshire and helped reduce unemployment by almost a half.

Mr Adams recently visited a new start-up business in Sherburn-in-Elmet where 20 year old Chloe Rhodes has set up ‘Chloe’s Flowers and Gifts’.

He said: "This is great news. It shows the Start-Up Loans scheme is giving people in Selby and Ainsty with the ideas and determination to start a new business - who have struggled in the aftermath of the recession - the finance they need to kick-start and grow it.

“So far 21 loans, worth a total of £112,900, have been made in the Selby and Ainsty constituency to help people put their business idea into practice, supporting new businesses. This means more jobs and opportunities for local people."

Across the UK more than 20,000 Start-Up loans, worth more than £100 million, have been awarded to help new businesses get going and in Yorkshire, 1811 people have received almost £9.5 million to kick start their business ideas.
