A MOTHER has been jailed for a year for glassing a man in an attack that left him with mental and physical scars.

Paula Tune, 42, of St Lawrence Avenue, Snaith, smashed a glass into the face of Liam Bellamy after he became embroiled in an argument with Tune’s partner and son outside The Griffin pub in Selby.

Mr Bellamy, 25, was walking through the car park with a friend on the evening of May 31 when he was confronted by the men, who immediately became aggressive and were “intent on fighting”, the court heard.

Laurie Scott, prosecuting at York Crown Court, said: “They said they didn’t want any trouble. That had gone on for a few minutes when he turned round and saw the defendant, who he didn’t know, and she was described as charging towards him, when without any warning, she swung her right hand towards his face.

“The glass smashed as soon as it hit his face; it immediately started to bleed, and a piece of glass was left behind in his forehead.”

The court heard Tune was immediately remorseful and admitted what she had done to officers when they arrived. Her admission continued when she pleaded guilty to unlawful wounding.

Mr Bellamy was left with two 2cm cuts on his head, which have scarred. He was off work for two weeks with severe headaches and now becomes nervous when people stand behind him, court heard.

Sentencing Tune, Judge Recorder Simon Kealey, said: “You followed your partner out of the public house and went to intervene, not knowing if it was right or wrong, swung the glass, and that struck the face of the complainant.

“Mr Bellamy had to go to hospital where the two wounds on his forehead were sutured, but like many injuries it wasn’t the suturing which was the most serious part of it.”
