A NEW art show at Selby Abbey is highlighting the issue of homelessness in a thought provoking and original way.
The exhibition, entitled ‘Cardboard Boxes Are Not For Sleeping In’, features works by students at Selby College produced as part of a project with the York-based youth homelessness charity SASH.
Tina Firthlock, Community Co-ordinator for SASH, said the organisation aimed to ensure young people never found themselves sleeping in cardboard boxes.
College tutor Elaine Whitehead said students were given a brief to take a cardboard box and make it ‘something special’, considering all aspects of homelessness.
The event opens on Friday and will run until September 23.
