CABLES worth thousands of pounds have been stolen in two separate raids in the Selby district over the past few days.

North Yorkshire Police said thieves stole around £20,000 worth of copper cable from Stubbs Bridge on Beal Lane at Kellington, sometime between Monday and Tuesday.

The second theft happened between 1.30am and 2.10am on Tuesday, when 1,000 meters of overhead cabling were taken from Cobcroft Lane in Knottingley.

“Officers believe that some form of climbing aid must have been used to access the cable and are urging anyone who saw anything suspicious in the area around the time of the theft to get in touch,” said a force spokesman.

PC Dave White, of Selby Safer Neighbourhood Team, said: “These thefts were extremely dangerous and irresponsible and I am sure someone will have seen something which can help the investigation.” Anyone who can help police should call 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
