MORE than 70 guests from across the county attended a special picnic at a pioneering community woodland near York.
They saw how arable land at Escrick Park Estate is being turned into the 25-acre Three Hagges Jubilee Wood, the district’s largest new public woodland.
Rosalind Forbes Adam, the chair of the Hagge Woods Trust, who has designed and master-minded the unique wood with her son Beilby, said: “We were delighted with the turnout. Visitors and friends alike were able to wander through the wild flower meadow and the wood to see the progress being made.
“Seeded only just over a year ago, the meadow already has 32 species of wildflower including ox-eye daisy, birdsfoot trefoil, viper’s bugloss and achillea millefolium, plus the occasional orchid.
“Guests then set up camp to the accompaniment of Tim New and his band and listened to jazz while they enjoyed a huge array of home-made cakes largely provided by Anita Dart and the Craft Club team from the nearby Hollicarrs Holiday Park."
