AN ORGANISATION which helps vulnerable residents in the Selby area live independently has been awarded a top contract.

Yorkshire Housing’s Selby Home Improvement Agency (HIA), has worked in the district since 2001 and helped more than 12,000 vulnerable residents in the last five years alone.

It has now been given a three-year contract from North Yorkshire County Council.

Kate Haley, deputy head of home improvement agencies, said the organisation makes a huge difference to people’s lives and the new contract will enable them to continue this.

She said: “We are really pleased to continue to work in Selby.

“We have an enthusiastic team who make a real difference to customers’ lives.”

Councillor Clare Wood, North Yorkshire County Council’s executive member for health and adult services, added that the agreement will allow the authority to fulfil its vision for the elderly.

She said: “Providing the support and care to allow people to live full and independent lives in their own homes is a key part of the council’s vision for older people.”
