A MAN was airlifted to hospital with serious head injuries following a car crash near Selby.
He was driving a Volkswagen Golf which left the road and crashed into a field off Fox Lane, Chapel Haddlesey, at about 12.10pm yesterday.
The man, who has not been identified, was trapped in the vehicle and had to be freed by firefighters, who cut off the door and the roof. He was carried from the car on a spinal board and flown to Leeds General Infirmary by air ambulance.
A male passenger was out of the car when emergency service arrived and he was taken by ambulance to York Hospital. A witness said the car had gone over a dyke and into the middle of the field.
The road was cordoned off following the crash, which did not involve any other vehicles.
