A MOTOR club in Selby has urged former members to get in touch as it celebrates its golden anniversary.

Selby And District Motor Club has had hundreds of members since it was formed in 1963, but only has about 25 regulars, who meet every week at the clubhouse at Sands Lane, Breighton.

John Roberts, of Sherburn-in-Elmet, has been chairman for the last 11 years, and members come from across Yorkshire to the club which caters for people interested in road and stage rallying.

He said: “We’re mainly a rally car group and we’re trying to find out more about the history and original members so we can publish more about the group.

“Some of us do stage rallying on weekends and sometimes overnight on weekends, and in 12 car events all over the place. We’re going to Derbyshire to race down little country lanes later this month.”

Ralph Jackson, club secretary, said celebrations would be arranged for old and current members later this year.

He said: “So far, we know of over 600 people who have been members and we would like to get in touch with them all preferably by email as we couldn’t afford to mail information to them all. Many of the addresses we have are almost 50 years old and it’s pretty certain that they will have had a move since then.

“As yet no specific plans have been made for the golden jubilee celebrations as we don’t know whether we need to cater for 20 or 200 but as we get an idea of numbers we will set the ball rolling.”

Former members, or anyone interested in contacting the club, should email ralph@allmodcomms.co.uk or ajme.roberts@btinternet.com
