REGIONAL news reporter Jon Hill will visit a village near Selby to switch on the Christmas lights on Saturday.

Jon, who works for ITV Yorkshire’s Calendar, will be at Burn’s village green from 4.45pm.

As well as the switch-on, the event will include a visit from Santa, carols, and a Christmas blessing from Methodist minister the Rev Linda Day.

The traditional Tree Festival will be open to the public from 1pm in Burn Methodist Chapel, and this year’s theme is “your favourite children’s book”. Refreshments will also be available.

A small Christmas market, with stalls, tombola and games, will be held in the Methodist Chapel from 3pm.

Jon said: “I’ve visited Burn many times both to visit friends and cover stories, and I know there is an amazing community spirit in this little village.

“I was delighted and honoured to be invited to switch on the Christmas lights, especially as I know the village has played host to some well-known personalities. I am really looking forward to helping Burn celebrate Christmas.”

Free food will be provided at The Wheatsheaf by landlords Andy and Jo, following the ceremony.
