A MAN was arrested after he allegedly punched a doorman in a dispute at a Selby nightclub.

Police were called to Market Place at about 1.40am on Sunday, following reports of a disturbance at Kans Nightclub.

A 21-year-old man had paid for entry to the club, but became involved in a dispute over payment by another man. When a 43-year-old man from the doorstaff team intervened, the 21-year-old allegedly became abusive, and was ejected from the premises.

The police spokesman said a man was arrested and charged later on Sunday with assault by beating and using threatening behaviour. The doorman suffered cuts to his lips from the attack.

A 21-year-old man, believed to be from the area, was released on bail and is due to appear before Selby Magistrates' Court on Thursday, November 29.
