Faster broadband heading to North Yorkshire

A DEAL for a multi-million-pound scheme to make high-speed broadband links available to most North Yorkshire communities will be signed today.

The region is one of four pilot areas chosen by the Government for new internet schemes and the first to implement a project, called Connecting North Yorkshire.

The £70 million initiative is designed to boost business while also giving residents levels of online access currently only available to major cities.

The installation of a fibre-optic underground cable network across North Yorkshire will be completed within three years.

North Yorkshire County Council has awarded a contract for the scheme, which will be signed today along with confirmation of the successful bidder.
